PEACEFUL DWELLINGS

HOUSING & SHELTER

"My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest."

Isaiah 32:18

Every night, when the rain falls, water seeps through the thatched roofs and causes the dirt floor to turn into mud. As a result, the children sleeping on the floors often become sick. In addition, rats, snakes, and other animals will live in the damp ceiling, sometimes falling on the residents below. These houses, no more than 100 square feet (smaller than an average american bedroom), will normally house upwards of 10 people.

SAVE plans to provide metal roofs, concrete floors, and block walls for the people of Boukeron, depending on the condition of each house. The owners are expected to help in the construction and to open their door for their homeless neighbors.

If you have any ideas on helping the housing sector, we would love to hear from you! Just email us at haitianrelations@teensave.org

We hope that one day every villager in Boukeron will be able to go to sleep without the worry of being exposed to the outside conditions.

Nearly every house in Boukeron is in shambles. Up to 12 people live in a 10ftX10ft hut made of crumbling walls, snake-infested roofs, and muddy floors. A new house guarantees health, prosperity, and shelter for the villagers.

Every night, the people inside these huts sleep on the dirt floor. When it rains, the water turns the floor into a slate of mud full of bugs. With a concrete floor, the villagers would not have to worry about their safety when they go to bed.

During the rainy season, water floods through the thatched roof, along with the snakes nesting in it. This often keeps the people from sleeping in their own homes. With a metal roof, diseases will be limited and people will have more rest.
